When Marie and Laura came to me and asked me to promote their updated Copy Cure, a course for business people to learn their own copywriting skills, I thought that health coaches had no business writing copy because they should be coaching instead of creating copy.  So, when they came back and asked me a third time, I accepted, and I’ll tell you why.

In the last few weeks, I’ve changed my mind.

Many of you have become very close to me.  I know you.  I know how much you have to offer the people in this world who need you desperately.  I’ve been looking at your websites and they don’t tell me who you are.  It’s hard to distinguish one of you from another.  I can’t tell who you’re working with, what they are hurting from, what you can do for them, or why they should pay you their good money to be coached by you.  As far as I can tell, you’ve all got a script that says pretty much nothing to no one.

Yes, I know, that was harsh.  It’s true.

Many of your home pages talk in the third person and don’t talk to the person reading but some imaginary somebody.  That’s why you need to know your customer. That’s why you need to know yourself.  You need to be intimately aware of who and where both of you are in every stage of your relationship.

Here is an example of a health coach who also happens to be a licensed MD.  You can imagine, that “her speak” is very intelligent, and…. a little dry and above most of our heads.  One thing to keep in mind, on the internet, and especially in blogs, you should be speaking at a 7th-grade level.  Not because we’re all dumb, but because we are all in a hurry and can’t take the time to understand unless we’re intensely motivated.  If we’re intensely motivated, someone speaking at a 7th-grade level probably got us there.

Instead of creating lists of restrictions and good and bad foods, I coach my clients to explore basic improvements and implement gradual changes during our work together. As these pieces accumulate, my clients find the changes collectively create a much larger impact than they originally expected. We work on what you want to improve on.

Most approaches to healthy eating and meal planning dwell on calories, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Traditionally you’d be restricting BAD foods and getting your list of GOOD foods and sticking to those.  That’s a restrictive lifestyle that you don’t need to live.

As you and I work together, we take a positive approach to realistic lifestyle changes.  When you make simple, basic, and incremental improvements you feel better right now.   

As these pieces accumulate, and before you even know it, the changes you implemented slowly and comfortably make an impact beyond what you originally could have dreamed.

The best thing is, as a doctor, I can heal, but, as a health coach, I’m working with you on what’s important to you, and we end up doing less healing with medicine and medical procedures or treatments, and you thrive and enjoy your natural health.

The benefits you see are in your pocketbook, your sick days, your productive days, energy, mental health, happiness, clarity, and longevity.  Not to mention the benefits to your friends and family who get a better version of you and an example for their own lives.

You’re 55 years old and way past wanting to count calories, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. You don’t want to be told what you can and can’t eat.  I get that. Life is short, and that’s a restrictive lifestyle that you don’t need to live.

Most doctors see you in the office, diagnose your problem and give you a prescription for a treatment, procedure or medicine.

Here’s the deal, I decided it’s time for a change.  I want to see you before you’re sick.  I want to help you stay vibrant, energetic, happy, and fully functioning.  I’m building a community of well people.

You’re at a special point in your life where you have some time.  You’ve done a great job with your kids and they’re building their own lives now.  THIS IS YOUR TIME.

Sure, I can still heal, but, as a health coach, I’m working with you on what’s important to you, and we end up doing less healing with medicine and medical procedures or treatments because you don’t need to be healed anymore.  You are a well person.  You’re smart, you’ve accomplished a lot in your life and this is the time you should be living life to the fullest.  You don’t have time to be sick.

You don’t have to give up everything and be uncomfortable and make your family uncomfortable.  You’re going to pick out what’s most important and you’ll make simple, basic, and incremental improvement so you feel better right now.   

As these pieces accumulate, and before you even know it, the changes you implemented slowly and comfortably make an impact beyond what you originally could have dreamed.  You’ll be going to lunch with your friends again, visiting around the pool instead of in the kitchen, going for walks and enjoying it, and playing with your new grandchildren at the playground or in your backyard.  You’re setting an example for your children and your grandchildren.  They see you as the happy, energetic grandma.  Your friends want to be with you because you’re positive and make them feel good.  Your husband likes taking you out and you want to go.

Learn what your customers need and speak straight

If there’s one thing you SHOULD do yourself, it’s to speak to your customers in your advertising and to tell your story.  Take the time to learn.  You’ll be glad you did.
