There was so much written about opt-in offers last year – I bet you thought there was nothing else to share!

Not so!

I have lots more to say.

As always, the most important steps before choosing an opt-in offer is to clarify who your client is, what your niche is, what problems can be solved and where to reach them.

The next thing to do is to select the type of opt-in you will offer.  That should be different for everyone, based upon your answers to the questions in the previous sentence.

Types of Opt-ins:

Tool Box

Tool Box

We use Health Coach University™ as our “tool box”. There are tons of useful videos, articles and courses compiled for opt-ins.

For you, it may be recipes, information on kitchen gadgets, or suggested health books.  This is like the king of opt-in offers.  It adds such value to our community, both the health coaches and the business experts, plus it works.

Case Studies

Case Studies

Case Studies

In our case, we used case studies of successful health coaches.  You might choose people who have lost or gained weight, gotten off meds or switched to a different eating style.  This worked real well for us.  It took a lot of work to reach out to, gather and compile the information.

Answer to #1 Problem

Answer to #1 Problem

PDF – with the answer to their #1 problem

Quit sugar in 5 days! (with built in follow up!)  This offering has been very “adaptable” for most health coach niches.  There are a lot of people who would really benefit from cutting out the sugar.  The thing is, it will only be useful if your clients are wanting to do this.  You might want to use it but change the name to fit your niche better and address their #1 problem verbally.

7 Day Smoothie Challenge (with built in follow up!)  This has been a very good opt-in for many of our health coaches.  The nice thing is, the follow up is a very natural flow of helpful information.  One of the best things about it, you can easily create a support group to build a stronger community and it naturally leads into a 12 Day Detox.  It is an all around winner.  You may want to change the name (again) to directly answer your ideal client’s #1 problem.  It could be “Reduce Inflammation in 7 Days”

Try it out in return for your email.  As long as the set up isn’t expensive, this is a GREAT way to build your list PLUS it gives your contact hands on experience with your product.  A health coach may use the “health history” for this….as long as you don’t spend the entire time selling and you give value in the call.

Assessment or Quiz

Assessment or Quiz

Quiz or Assessment

Ours is “What Kind of Coach are You? Holli Thompson has a nutritional style quiz.  This is such a clever “op-in” for Holli.  Her business has been “nutritional style” and this really reinforces her brand.  It is fun too.

FREE Starter Kit

3 Days – PLUS motivation (built in follow up).  This is where all of the wonderful content Kris has built up really pays off and a good example that you do not have to create new content for your opt-in offer.  Reuse it!  This really offers great value to new people wanting to get started with clean eating and living and she just pulled it from work that is already done.

Mystery Gift

BUT it better be good!  You run the risk of really turning people away if this isn’t something really good.  The advantage I can see to this is that you can change up your offering all the time and you don’t have to change your copy.

This could be a good move or a waste of some advertising.  I would definitely do some split tests on this one.  She gives away her list without expectation of opt-in and then – offers the Meal Planner as an opt-in.

Gabby supports it with a VLOG.  This is probably pretty similar to Marie Forleo’s “Marie TV”  – people rely on it coming to their inbox weekly.  Gabby has a strong community and I’m betting  this is a great direction for her.

Those of you who are Inner Circle Members have tons of possible “opt-in” offers available to you through your membership.

  • recipe book
  • Self Care PDF
  • any of the supplemental modules (oils, weight loss, advanced exercise and nutrition)
  • excerpts from any of the programs
  • the hypnosis audios for 28 Day Slim, Sexy
  • one or two guided visualizations from the 12 Day Detox
  • any of the blog articles can be converted to a nice pdf

You can use them as is, or you can brand them to your business.  We have instructions for how to do that…and VA services if you want help.

The main thing is…the item you choose needs to solve a problem for your ideal client …and it really should be something that they just can’t resist.  Then, remember, this is a representation of what you can do for them.  Make sure it represents you well.

Tell us what you use for an opt-in offer.  How has it worked for you?  If you don’t have an opt-in offer – why not?  It is time…this is what builds your list and your list is what feeds your business.

Great stuff. I created an ebook a couple of years abo, then tweaked and refined it, splitting it up into 7 daily chinks and added in ecercises for variety and engagement. Is called the Confidence To Change. Im reluctant to change it as I put a lot into it, but feel as time moves on the pace of the visitor changes and what ‘the latest thing’ to do is the thing to do now. I just seem to keep going round in circles sometimes!! Useful info, thanks Cathy!

I don’t have any opt-in offer. Yet. I’m still in the figuring-out phase of everything. I would like to make an e-book with exercises and lifestyle tips for pelvic floor weakness but it needs time. I find it very time-consuming to create an e-book like this, because I need photos with the exercises, so maybe for the first opt-in-offer I should do something else… I’m still a bit uncertain in everything 😀

Opt-in offers that are giving something away are not as needed as much with the economy changing. Plus, people will pay for value. I like your examples above, the quiz and free trial. I always appreciate your hard-worked models for coaches. You do provide value and it’s evident how much work you have put into it.

Cynthia, it is all working too. I don’t post anything here that isn’t already contributing to a 7figure business model successfully.

I used Healthy Holidays last year as an opt-in. It was my first experience with online group coaching. I was uncomfortable with it. I don’t feel like the opt-in really helped, however, at that time I didn’t know how to market it, I think I know a lot more now and it’s time to put it into action to help people move forward and to get myself comfortable with operating an online business. I have moved a lot of the excuses out of my way, this course is really addressing what I need to think about and the thinking take some time. What would I like to give away? Honestly, tongue cleaners, coconut oil and spring water. However, just going through this, I can give them these things in a special report, a fun challenge on drinking water, an article on how to clean your tongue, an article on just one use of coconut oil, a list suggestions for relaxation, etc, etc, etc…I just lighten up a little but, then, Incan get creative.
